Valiyappachens pet name was Thampi. The society fondly called him Thampi chaetan. The line bus had a stop in front of our family home which was called Thampicheatten padi. Appachen was intelligent hardworking and smart. He was good at mental maths. He used to teach his grand children mathematical table and ask us to by-heart it and recite to him. He used to make kids read Malayala Manoramma newspaper daily to correct malayam vocabulary. He was a faithful person. He used to pray 2 times a day. He knew all orthodox prayers by-heart and used to pray all orthodox prayers daily, lent days prayers and holy week prayers. His favorite foods were puttu pazham, appam, omlette, pappadam, fish curry with kudam puli and mango coconut chutney.
At an young age Appachen supported his family and grandma’s family. He gave lands to his brothers and married off his two sisters.
